Celebrating Geroy

Geroy Simon took care of business right out of the gate in week one, eclipsing Milt Stegall's reception yardage record in the fourth quarter of the Lions home opener against Stegall's old team (and as we were reminded, the team that brought Simon to the CFL).

The achievement was celebrated on field with the Commissioner Mark Cohon and the always classy Milt Stegall, who congratulated Simon for passing his mark on the record books, a meeting between two CFL legends that tells you more than a few things about the calibre of the people who call the CFL their home.
.

.
Simon reached 15,192 with ten minutes left in the Lions victory over the Bombers, with a full season ahead of him, we imagine that number will grow exponentially through the way towards the end of the season.

His will be a standard of excellence in the CFL that will stand for a few seasons we would imagine, especially considering the fact that Simon still seems in top form for a few more years of CFL success..

So, what does the guy who has most of it all do for an encore, well add on the yardage and focus on the next milestone for CFL achievement.

While he adds onto the record for yardage he can keep an eye on the record for most receptions, a mark of 1.017 set by Ben Cahoon who retired in 2010. Heading into game number two, Geroy has made 940 catches, so the prospect of another celebration before November is a definite possibility.

Geroy's fans can follow along the path this season, the Lion receiver has his own website, facebook page and twitter feed, portals that will no doubt be busy through the summer.
